'Serene Cuisine' Menu 29/5/15

A New Week In The Kitchen

At the risk of repeating myself, the days are getting colder, (but now even colder!) and my meals are reflecting this both here at just frank, and in my own personal recipe selections at home throughout the week.
A lot of soups and casseroles have been consumed and tonight I will drag the slow cooker out from the back of the cupboard and place it in its permanent winter position on the kitchen bench.
I'm sure many of you are familiar with the amazing benefits of creating meals in a slow cooker, or crock pot as they are otherwise known, but if you haven't yet experienced the benefits, do yourself a favour and invest in one.
They aren't at all expensive and are a kitchen appliance well worth having.
There's nothing quite like filling one up with your favourite winter veggies, legumes and seasonings first thing in the morning, and switching it on, only to return after work to a house infused with the glorious aroma of a home cooked meal, ready to serve. Yum!!

It Really Is Easy Being Green

This week, I have an abundance of beautiful Broccoli heads ready to harvest in my veggie patch. Full of amazing nutrients and as green as any green vegetable can be, I have created a beautiful Creamed Broccoli and Leek Soup recipe for the menu this week so as to share this beautiful greenness and goodness with you.
The name of the soup may conjure up images of 'cream,' as in dairy cream, but as well aware, no meat eggs or dairy are used in any of my recipes, so 'cream' in this context, simply means creamy in texture.
While we are talking 'green,' this week's scones will have just a hint of green in them with the addition of Parsley and Chives, which add not only a beautiful visual appeal, but a fresh flavour to the common everyday scone.

You Can Never have Enough Chocolate

Dessert this week is a Crispy Wholemeal Chocolate Slice with Chocolate Icing and a sprinkling of chopped and toasted Walnuts, which are freshly shelled and locally grown.
Full of flavour and high in fibre, this slice will satisfy your sweet tooth and is sure to be a hit with all you chocolate lovers out there.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify

This week's menu in case you haven't noticed, has been simplified, with only 3 items on the order form, namely the items that make up the lunch menu.
Almost 3 months in, and I am reviewing the structure of the 'serene cuisine' ordering system and the frequency of menus.
The 'frank's everyday menu' is absent from the order form this week but will reappear shortly in another form, as I review the best way to offer all of your favourite menu items in a more time efficient manner.
If you are looking for, or wish to order any of the regular menu items such as veggie burgers, muffins, soups, bliss balls or dips, please do not hesitate to contact me via email @ serenityleah13@gmail.com or by phoning me on 0418801887.

Meatless Monday 25/5/15

Hello From My Kitchen

It's time for another serving of Meatless Monday goodies from the serene cuisine' kitchen.

More Tofu

Due to popular demand, Fried Tofu Steaks are back again after being very well received by many of you last Monday. After a new customer ordered two servings of Tofu last week, one for herself and one for her 8 year old son,  her son was quoted as saying "it was the softest fake chicken I've ever had!" Priceless!

Brown Fried Rice And Vegetables

This week, Brown Rice will feature in a favourite dish for many people who have a penchant for Chinese food. Good old fried rice is a great all round, nutritionally dense and tasty meal, which lends itself to so many variations, depending on what is in season, and what your preferences are regarding the vegetable content.

As the huge crop of Broccoli in my veggie garden continues to mature, I will be adding this nutritious green to the mix along with many other varieties of seasonal veggies.
Brown rice has a higher fibre content than its white 'cousin' and has a nutty bite to it adding texture to this traditional dish.

'Serene Cuisine' Menu 22/5/15

Hello From My Kitchen

I will begin this week's menu introduction with an apology for my lateness in posting. It's been a hectic start to the week, but here I am with a new and tasty Friday menu for you.

Friday's Winter Warmers

With the cold weather continuing and with the addition of quite a bit of rain, it's only natural that I would have some fine Winter 'yumminess' on offer to warm up your insides.

Barley is an often underutilized grain and is generally overlooked in favour of rice.
I personally love it for it's high protein and fibre content and for it's versatility.

The Curried Barley Pilaf I have created for you this week is a wonderful example of this.
With a host of seasonal veggies including Broccoli straight from my veggie patch, a hint of curry (very mild), and served with or without Falafel Patties, this Winter Warmer is sure to please.

A 'Healthy' Chocolate Brownie (Yes, it's true!)

No dessert menu would be complete without a decadent chocolate dish gracing it from time to time, and this week's Vegan Chocolate Brownie with a rich chocolate sauce will certainly hit the spot for those of you who can't resist such a treat.

*New* Healthy Snack Options

This week I have added 3 healthy snack options to the menu.
These will now be available each week along with the everyday menu items and will vary from time to time.

Meatless Monday 18/5/15

Welcome back To My Kitchen

Hello again from the kitchen and as I prepare for another week, I am excited to be offering another simple, yet delicious menu up for Meatless Monday.

One of my aims as I bring a Monday option into the mix, is to introduce those of you who are 'vegan curious' to foods that you have heard about but are unsure how to prepare to best enhance them, or to foods that you may not have even heard about.

I will also bring you documented health data of the featured foods in links that are accessible by clicking on the highlighted text.

And Yes, Tofu Is Delicious

One of the most common food items that I get asked about is Tofu. In my opinion, Tofu gets a bad rap due to people's uncertainty of how to prepare it to best enhance its exquisiteness.

This week, in an attempt to show you that Tofu is indeed delicious, I am offering my version of Crumbed Tofu Steaks as a menu option. The 'steaks' will come in a pack of 2 and I am quite confident that once you've tried it, there will be many of you who will be wondering why you haven't indulged in this amazing source of plant-based protein before.

Couscous

Couscous is another fabulous, and often under utilised ingredient which lends itself to many recipes both hot and cold. On the menu is a Roast Pumpkin and Vegetable dish using Couscous in one of the most delicious ways I've come across so far.

'Serene Cuisine' Menu 15/5/15

Welcome Back To My Kitchen

Winter is here with a vengeance, albeit a little early, and I have certainly been cooking up a storm this week providing food for a host of lovely folk at the Mothers Day Classic at the Valley Lakes on Sunday.
Several hundred runners and walkers turned out for the annual fun run to raise awareness into the need for more research into a cure for breast cancer. It was an emotional gathering as cancer sufferers, survivors and their families and supporters turned out in very cold and wet conditions on a united front.
Thank you to all who attended to support this wonderful event, and to the organisers and volunteers who gave their time selflessly on the day and beyond.

                                                                                                      This Week's Friday Menu

On this week's menu, I will be offering a beautifully, hearty and nutritious pasta dish which is one of my favourites, and one that has been enjoyed by my family for decades. (Now I feel old!)
This tomato based dish includes a host of Mediterranean veggies that compliment each other perfectly, not only with their melded flavours, but visually as well.
Dessert will be a Mini Banana Pancake Stack with a Mixed Berry Syrup, which will be served separately. Deliciously moist and fluffy, these pancakes have little flavour bursts of banana scattered through them and coupled with the berry syrup, provide a valuable fruit boost to your daily food intake.

'Serene Cuisine' Menu 8/5/15

The winter weather is here, and for that reason, wintery food will definitely be on the menu this Friday.

This Week's Friday Menu

There's nothing like a bowl of hot lentils to warm up your belly on a chilly winters day, and this week I am serving brown lentils in an onion based sauce with seasonal roasted veggies, including sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin and potato. Extremely hearty and one of the very first lentil dishes I cooked when I went vegan many years ago, this meal remains one of my all time favourites.

Dessert will again include some of the delicious, organically grown apples that I have had the good fortune to have access to this season, as I use the last of the crop to whip up a delightfully creamy, yet chunky, apple pudding which will be served with dairy free vanilla ice cream.

This week's entire meal is gluten free!

'We' Thank You!

Those of you who know me, know that I am an ethical vegan, a passionate way of living that was the catalyst for the birth of this plant-based, whole food business.
I never preach, judge others, nor do I write incessantly on the topic of veganism, but today I feel compelled to touch on the subject, as orders for my 'serene cuisine' fare continue to climb each and every week.
I want those of you who are indulging in this fabulous, health-giving food, to know that you are doing so much more than just supporting me in my small business venture, as I am sure many of you are aware.

You are making a difference!

One simple 'cruelty-free' meal a week DOES make a difference and my hope is that this is only the beginning for so many of you.

To those of you who have been on board the 'serene cuisine' train from the beginning, to those who have recently joined me and to those of you who are curious and have been contacting me with your questions, not only do I thank you, but the animals that are spared by choosing to 'go vegan,' even for this one meal, thank you also.

Yesterday, as I again met so many beautiful people, with beautiful hearts, I'm not only feeling blessed, but I'm also feeling hopeful that together
we can continue to make a difference.

Again, thank you all.

Love and light,
Leah. <3
