Hello From My Kitchen

I simply have to begin this blog entry with an apology.....
Things have been quite crazy around here and I've lost momentum in a huge way, which has thrown my plans of being a super organised, regular blogger and keeper of deadlines out of kilter.

I'm onto it though, and the first step today is to share this week's menu with my blog subscribers and to also share the last of the recipes that I demonstrated at my Super healthy Eating Workshop @ the Mount Gambier Library Workshop in February.

I am also working on organising new workshops to cater to those of you who expressed an interest in having the opportunity for further discussion on some of the topics that were touched on.

The first event was booked out very quickly, and if you were one of the folks who had your name on the waiting list @ the library to attend the next Super Healthy Eating Workshop, please contact me via the Questions? Feedback? form to the right of the page to indicate your interest.

Thank you all for your patience and for your incredible feedback and support.

The volume of just frank products that are being sold @ She's Apples since they first appeared on their shelves a week and a half ago is astounding, and speaks loudly of the need in the community for healthier meal options.

Thank you.....

Vegetable Fritters

Ingredients

1/2 cup plain flour (I prefer wholemeal for extra fibre)
1/2 cup soy, almond or rice milk,
1/2 cup of either peas or corn
1 medium zucchini grated
1 medium carrot grated
1/2 cup broccoli florets finely chopped
1/2 brown/red onion finely diced
2 tblsp chopped red capsicum
1/2 teaspoon Massel veggie stock powder
Salt and pepper to taste.

Whisk the flour and soy milk to form a batter then add stock powder.
Stir through the veggies and season to taste with salt and pepper.
Heat a large frying pan over a high heat and add a little olive oil.
Add a tablespoon of the mixture to the pan at a time, shaping into small rounds.
Cook the fritters until brown on one side then flip over carefully and cook the other side.
Drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately.

*veggies can be exchanged for any of your choice with similar cooking times and quantities.
Enjoy!

Hello From The Kitchen....Again

I seriously don't know where the weeks go! A day, a week and before we know it, a lifetime.
Every week I say the same thing about time and how we choose to spend it, with most of us unconsciously floating through our days and weeks as though we have an infinite number of them at our disposal.

I've shared many a conversation of late with friends and family on this very topic, so I know I'm not alone in my thinking.

The question is, what are we going to do to change it, if anything?

I have a feeling that most of us think it's out of our control, that other people, things and events are calling the shots and we are just being sucked along at their mercy.
That is so far from the truth, but being the creatures of habit that we are, change is such a difficult thing to contemplate, let alone master.

I'm going to be honest with you, I struggle with change as much as the next person, but one important step that I have recently taken towards implementing change in my life, is the acknowledgement of the fact that I am in control, not someone or something else.
I have the power to begin the process of changing at any given moment should I choose to do so, I simply have to want to.
It's so easy to be swept along on a wave of 'busyness' catching glimpses of some of the things that you truly crave at a deeply soulful level as they speed past you travelling in the opposite direction.

I've never been a strong swimmer, so swimming upstream, metaphorically speaking, is always going to pose some risks and will challenge me to learn new coping skills.

I have some unique and exciting opportunities standing before me right now and the obvious choice (one would think) would be to throw myself into the raging river in the hope that the strong current doesn't drag me under causing me to lose sight of the multitude of other things that fan the flames of my soul.

I'll let you know how I go, but for now, I'm breathing deeply and am taking the time to dip my toe into the water, I'm taking in the scenery and will make decisions based on what's right for me.

If you've met me in person, you'll see a stark similarity in the way this blog post panned out and how I actually converse in real life. I can go from a 5 word sentence to a 5000 word speech in a very short space of time and I've seen many a pair of eyes glaze over when I get onto a topic that I'm passionate about.

If this just happened to you, don't feel bad, just scroll past......

On The Menu This Week

On the menu at last week's market, I introduced a Chickpea and Potato Curry that was so popular that I thought I would add it to this week's menu for you.
Coconut milk based, this curry is mild in heat strength but big on flavour with a combination of delicious Indian spices used to enhance the thick and creamy sauce.

A dear friend of mine ahs some delicious leeks growing in her veggie patch and has offered some to me this week to create one of my favourite soups Potato and Leek. Yum!!

Mini Banana Pancakes are on the menu topped with my homemade Strawberry Syrup as well as a newly created Walnut Muesli Cookie for the sweet lovers among you.

Frank's Veggie Burgers return to the menu this week also with a gluten free option available.

Sunday Market 13/3/16 Pre-Order Form

As I begin the next stage of planning for this Sunday's Mount Gambier Library Market, I'm feeling a tad jet lagged this morning after a late night arrival home from Adelaide last night.

There's nothing like a change of scenery, and a few days of shopping and visiting family was just what I needed, and although I am tired, I'm feeling refreshed and ready to get into the kitchen again.

One of my favourite things to do while I am away is to source new ingredients for my menu items and to visit popular vegan cafes and eateries to see what's new. I generally come away with some very exciting ideas as foundations for new things to offer to you.

Not being a 'shy violet,' I often approach fellow foodies in the industry to talk about what is currently trending in the city, to network, and to share in the excitement of what we are achieving with our food offerings in the 'whole-food, plant based' community.

I have returned home with an amazing array of delicious ingredients that I will be including in some of my regular menu items as well as some incredible new creations that will be coming up in the next few weeks, with a few of them making an appearance at the market this coming Sunday.

Check out the pre-order menu on the right-hand side of the page which will enable you to order your favourite regular items.

This menu is only a small portion of what I will have on offer this Sunday, but will help me with my planning and spare you from missing out on the things that I generally sell out of first.

Please note that this will be the last Sunday market for this season but stay tuned for where you will find me and my 'Serene Cuisine' goodies in the next few weeks.

I am so excited for what is coming up......

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
See you on Sunday!

Love and light,
Leah <3

Hello From The Kitchen

It's 4am as I write this blog post and just in case you're wondering, no, sleep isn't my friend.
I know I'm not alone either as I have had many a discussion with friends and acquaintances alike on this very topic.
The reasons for disturbed sleeping patterns vary, we're all different, but for me, it's not just the one thing, although it used to be.
I am fortunate, (or unfortunate if you're a glass-half-empty kind of person) to have been born with a very active mind, and I say fortunate because I have an awful lot of time to let my creative mind wander when my ideas wake me up at 2am, 3am, 4am and again at 5am!
This has been the case for the majority of my adult life and now as I enter the most liberating years of my life, the awesome 50's, it's 'hello menopause!!!'

Now, if you have ever seen a grown woman of my age suddenly start shedding her clothes, she's more than likely experiencing 'hot flashes,' a common symptom of menopause where you literally feel as though you are going to spontaneously combust. Reserve your judgement! If you aren't there yet, wait.....

That's all I need to say about that for now and I can see the heads nodding of those who ARE there.

These experiences actually have me really excited about the onset of winter this year as I predict a decline in my home heating costs and the fact that I won't need any new flannelette sheets or pyjamas. There's that glass half full attitude again.

Anyway, I'm here to tell you about food.......arent I?

On The Menu This Week

This week's menu will be a condensed version of the regular Friday menu due to the March edition Mount Gambier Library Market taking place this coming Sunday, which will be the final Sunday market for the season.
With the temperature forecast in the mid 30's, another version of my Buddha Bowls are back again this Friday and past interest is anything to go by, I'm in for a busy morning of preparation and deliveries.

As my veggie patch begins to wind up it's Summer harvest, the remaining tomato plants are still yielding well and I picked over 12 kilos of delicious, ripe tomatoes over the weekend, some of which will form part of the rainbow of goodness in the bowls.
I'm sure you'll notice the flavour difference between  commercially grown 'fruit' and organically grown fruit from a home garden. There's really no comparison.

It appears a lot of you also still love to see a soup on the menu, so a deliciously smooth Zucchini and Potato Soup will be on offer with both flatbread and herb and garlic rolls available also.

The just frank dessert menu this week sees the debut of my Apple Strudel Muffins which will include apples that have been organically and locally grown, hand-picked by my Mum. (Thanks Mum! x)
Again, the taste difference of home grown produce is amazing.

Sunday's Pre-Order Menu

Later this week, as usual, I will be putting a pre-order menu up for the March 13th Mount Gambier Library Market to enable you to order any of your favourite just frank goodies in advance.
This system has proved to be very successful in past months and I urge you to take advantage of it if you are planning on coming along next Sunday.

The order form will appear on the right hand side of this page late on Wednesday in place of the Friday menu.
I look forward to seeing you at the market which, as I already mentioned, is the final Sunday library market for this season.
